Synopsis

An enterprise’s offering is neither its physical output alone nor a marketing promise detached from delivery. Product management establishes which benefits will be designed, tested, maintained and withdrawn; branding organizes the meanings and expectations attached to those benefits; pricing determines the conditions under which value is exchanged and economic returns can sustain its provision. This chapter develops a theoretically critical and practically usable account of these interdependent decisions. Drawing on a purposive synthesis of foundational marketing economics, consumer research, service design, innovation management, pricing science and authoritative regulatory documents, it examines twelve domains from product architecture and portfolios to revenue management, business-to-business contracts, post-purchase service, consumer protection and algorithmic offers. Rwanda’s business-establishment evidence and specialty-coffee institutions provide a contextual foundation, while comparative international scholarship tests the limits of transferring practices developed for large, data-rich enterprises. A fully disclosed hypothetical Rwandan packaged-food case contrasts cost-plus and customer-value pricing through contribution, break-even, elasticity and stress testing. Original instruments comprise a product-to-customer-value chain, product-portfolio decision matrix, launch-gate protocol, pricing model and accountable-price review. The central argument is that responsible product performance depends on credible alignment among experienced customer benefit, operational capability, brand claims, contractual rights, affordable access and sufficient contribution to sustain the enterprise. No causal effect is attributed to the constructed case, and the integrated decision model is offered as an analytical synthesis rather than a validated prediction.
