Synopsis

Professional communication converts knowledge into coordinated action. This chapter develops the communication capability required throughout Across Markets and Borders, integrating audience analysis, evidence, argument, academic and professional writing, editing, storytelling, persuasion, public speaking, visual communication, listening, feedback, difficult conversations, cross-cultural communication, digital practice and responsible use of generative AI. Communication is treated not as message transmission alone but as accountable meaning-making within relationships, institutions and power structures. Readers learn to evaluate source credibility, construct evidence-based arguments, synthesize scholarship, use APA 7th conventions, write decision-ready professional documents, present data without distortion and choose channels that fit task and audience. African evidence and the Safaricom M-PESA ecosystem illustrate how trust, agents, language, access and institutional credibility shape communication in practice; the Boeing 737 MAX crisis provides a comparative global case on truth, uncertainty and organizational credibility. Christian moral reasoning grounds communication in truthfulness, dignity, neighbour-love, conscience and accountability, distinguishing ethical persuasion from manipulation and coercion.
